Local Artist Scores Big on Grammy Ballot for the Second Consecutive year!

For the second consecutive year, Tampa-based artist Scovill Avenue, fresh of their 2008 release Big House, has been placed on the Official Ballot for the 2009 Grammy Awards by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences in seven categories, including the coveted first three categories Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year, respectively.

“It’s definitely an honor to Scovill Avenue and a tribute to the Bay Area,” exclaims Quincy B. Scovill, producer, writer, resident mad man, and owner of Mad Monk, Ltd, a Tampa-based independent label with several artists on its roster. “Last year we did pretty well and I told everybody that this year would be even more special!” Scovill is alluding to last year’s nomination of Mad Monk’s signature act Peasants of Posture, adding that four different songs from POP’s 2007 debut CD CounterRevolution were recognized by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Committee and placed on the Official Ballot for the 2008 Grammy Awards in four different categories. Also joining Scovill in the nominations are local artists Lorna Bracewell, Jun Bustamonte, Rick “Key Low D” Dill, Prostar Recording Studio engineer Jody Gray, Arthur Steur, Francillia, and singer Jennifer B. Real.

“These folks helped make this happen,” Scovill jubilantly exclaims. “ProStar Recording, Mz. Fortune, Piano Man, Johnny “D.S.” Cash, local rapper Ace of Jays, Adrianne, Berkely Bob, Deb Hunsedder, Jeremy Thomas, Shelter Kidd, Betty Lou Fox, and Francillia…We helped make this happen with a concerted team effort!” Scovill is quick to add that Mad Monk, Ltd is planning to release a CD maxi-single of “Will U B Mine,” nominated for Best Dance Recording, later this year and, under the moniker Beatnik Castle. The single will feature new Mad Monk, LTD artist Francillia, as well as latin, techno, club, acoustic, and Island remixes by Scovill, Key Lo D, DJ Lenny B, and famed Miami DJ Cato K. Francillia’s full-length CD, tentatively titled “Temptation” is scheduled for release Spring 2009. Big House (and CounterRevolution) is still available through CD Baby at http://cdbaby.com/cd/scovillavenue3 .

Biography: Beatnik Castle Releases CD Maxi-Single

Quincy B. Scovill, spokesperson, songwriter, producer, and owner of Florida-based independent label Mad Monk, Ltd, has formed Beatnik Castle – a high-energy psychedelic musical anomaly that includes Scovill Avenue’s Mz. Fortune, Anastasia V. Romanov, bassist and vocalist for Tampa doomster-metallers Peasants of Posture, and U.S. Virgin Islands-born/Tampa-based singing sensation Francillia.

Beatnik Castle, according to Quincy B, draws on an affinity for R & B, funkadelic, House/Dance, Latin, old school rap, and Motown. Francillia's smooth, soulful, in-depth vocal style all but cements Beatnik Castle's staying power in the world of contemporary dance. A maxi-cd-single featuring Francillia on "Will U B Mine" was released in January 2009 and features remixes and re-recordings by such dance world notables as Miami's Cato K, the-always incredible Lenny B, and, of course, Quincy B. Written, arranged, and produced by Quincy B, “Will U B Mine?” was recognized by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Committee and placed on the Official Ballot for the 2008 Grammy Awards for Best Dance Recording. Speaking of Grammy nods, this is the second consecutive year that a Mad Monk, LTD artist was placed on the Official Ballot for the Grammy Awards.

Four different songs from Mad Monk artist Peasants of Posture’s debut CD CounterRevolution (produced by Quincy B) were recognized by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Committee and placed on the Official Ballot for the 2008 Grammy Awards in four different categories. Three different songs from Scovill Avenue’s debut CD Big House have been placed on the Official Ballot for the 2009 Grammy Awards by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences in seven categories, including the coveted first three categories Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year, respectively. All nominated songs for both Peasants and Scovill Avenue (the former a gothic heavy metal group, the latter a commercial dance/R& B group) were written by Quincy B. In 2007, Quincy B and Mad Monk gained local recognition for “Ain’t No Bull,” a gothic industrial rap anthem that was a tribute to The University of South Florida Athletic teams.

In addition to writing and producing music for local and national artists, films, television, and other projects, Quincy B is devoting his efforts to Francillia's debut CD, tentatively titled Temptation, scheduled for release on Mad Monk, Ltd in 2009. Temptation will, according to Quincy B, have a hefty, hearty dose of R& B, hip-hop, funky groovy house dance, Latin industrial and even a little bit of heavy rock.” “Francillia is a diverse artist, and she really digs tunes with heavy guitars so we've got some really cool things ahead, "exclaims an excited Quincy B, adding that he's constantly amazed at Francillia's well-versed studio prowess and work ethic. ”We’re doing an Alice Cooper cover with a contemporary hip-hop feel and she’s really sounding cool," he adds. The CD is available at CD-Baby http://cdbaby.com/cd/beatnikcastle
