I Hate This Place is a pop/electronic project that was created in 2004 by Sean Nerney, who had, by a cruel twist of fate, found himself shivering away in Denver, Colorado that winter. IHTP was formed not so much as a reaction to the physical location, but to the mental state that the place brought out. Out in the Rockies, feelings of distance and isolation took hold, and the only natural response was to start writing music... impossibly happy electronic pop music. Thus, IHTP's first album, One Minute Mayhem, was born. The songs were basic but catchy, and, from these first steps into the world, the IHTP sound gradually coalesced into something a bit less manic and more introspective.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of The Postal Service, The Album Leaf, as well as some of his favorite 80s synthpop groups, Sean further developed an aural aesthetic that is unique yet still accessible. In I Hate This Place's latest album, Our Hearts Still Beating (2008), the sonic landscape is dominated by swirling synth textures mixed with intricately crafted rhythms that, when combined with Sean's thoughtful lyrics, create a veritable feast for the ears.

Though traditionally a solo project, in recent years I Hate This Place has been fortunate to have several talented co-conspirators, and the latest release features contributions by talented musicians from around the world. In 2007, I Hate This Place entered into an agreement with Tokyo-based XTAL Records to distribute music in Japan. Two dedicated Japanese editions of IHTP music have now been released. IHTP’s 5 album US-based discography is currently available online via CD Baby and iTunes. A new US album is slated for release in Summer 2009.

Press Release: "That look on your face, it reminds me of needing you from a thousand summers ago."

Poppy, beautiful, Our Hearts Still Beating carries on I Hate This Place's tradition of weaving the weird and wonderful into songs that will delight and enchant any fan of electronica.

"Your eyes are sad but you're still all right."

Joined by collaborators from around the world, IHTP's Sean Nerney writes tales of errant robots, night flights, sweet dreams, wayward vessels, and the many shades of love in the information age.

"We raced like wind through the darkness, pulled covers so closely to keep the world out."

Our Hearts Still Beating features 9 new original tracks, plus an alternate mix of Like, and a remixed/mastered version of Moment by Berlin based production team Sash and Eroc.

"Send this message out, but we get no reply. Can you still hear me out there? Come in, I'm standing by..."
