Melody has always played
an important role in the life of FL Jones. From performing for the amusement
of his father’s friends at the local barbershop at the age of 5, to singing
backups for Celine Dion at a private party attended by statesman from around
the world; the music has always come first. The music of his older siblings
left a permanent mark on the development of this artist. There was a simple
magic in Stevie, Donnie, Prince, Aretha, and Parliament. The blue lights,
the coconut incense and cocoa butter lotion, all of these sounds and smells
can be found in his music.
Although a member of the Hip-Hop generation, FL was always more drawn to bands,
live instrumentation and musicality. He developed his performance skills in
night clubs, theatres, and industrials across the eastern U.S. He soon began
writing and producing demos for others, refining his skills as a songwriter.
When he felt he was ready, he made the move to New York city.
6 months after arriving in New York, FL landed a leading role in the Australian
Company of the Broadway musical “RENT” produced by Cameron Macintosh. While
performing in Australia, he became an Aussie sensation. Performing as a solo
artist in front of millions on various television programs; culminating in an
interview and pictorial in Australian “Rolling Stone”. After a year, FL returned
to the states where he was cast in the “RENT” National Tour.
After some time on the road, FL was ready to make his mark as an artist and a
songwriter. He began performing in prestigious venues around the city. Such as
the Jazz Standard, Le Bar Bat, The Bitter End, and The Cutting Room. At the same
time he scored the feature film ”200 American”, providing the underscoring,
incidental, and original songs for the entire film. He also worked as a composer
and Music supervisor for the films “ Whirlwind”, “RAW Moves” , and most recently
The Film “Family” by Faith Trimel.
FL is excited to announce the release of his debut full length CD “Becoming
Myself”. With an airtight production by his partner Myer Lansky, the songs on
the album combine the intensity of modern urban music, with the musicality of
the masters. Upbeat, poignant, and funky, the new record shatters the notion of
what is Soul Music. |

Release:
"Becoming Myself" now available on CD Baby!!
Lotus Musiq Productions is proud to announce the release of Becoming Myself, the solo debut CD from NYC-based singer/songwriter FL Jones. Becoming Myself is a funky blend of old school R&B and urban pop reminiscent of early Prince, and Seal with a little more funk.
FL Jones’s music reflects his rich and diverse life experiences; from serving his country as a US Marine in the Gulf, to touring the world as a cast member of the Broadway musical, RENT, to serving as a fierce advocate for at-risk youth in inner city New York. The stories of his life form the fabric of the music he writes. FL has been profiled in Australian Rolling Stone magazine and has performed alongside artists such as James Brown, Celine Dion, and CeCe Penniston. Reflecting influences from Sting to Stevie Wonder to Beck, his unique sound conveys a depth of feeling often missing from today’s popular music.
In addition, he composed music for the indie films “200 American” and “Whirlwind”. Both films have won audience favorite awards at film festivals across the country and have held the #1 position on Wolfe Video’s DVD top-seller charts.
FL Jones will be performing Uptown in Harlem with his band at Shrine on May 20th to celebrate the release of his debut CD, "Becoming Myself". Shrine is located at 2271 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd between 133 and 134th, NYC. The show starts at 8:30 PM.
