Open Chapter is capturing fans all over the world with their freshman debut,
Falling to be Held. It is electrifying to hear the sensual growl of lead singer,
Manny Garcia, the thunderous drum beats of DMyke, killer riffs by Abel Arellano
and the rhythmic guitar and sweet background vocals of Paul Michael Riojas.
Their 2008 debut, falling to be held, is definitely worth checking out and
putting on your playlist.
The music itself is reminiscent of grunge rock from the 80s and 90s. It has a
dark quality relying heavily on angst-filled lyrics, reverberated vocals,
feedback and some distortion. The sound is strong and in-your-face. Open Chapter
is often asked how they came up with their name. Manny and Paul are huge
Shinedown fans and really like the song Fly from the Inside. In that song there
is a line that says, "I am focused on what I am after, the key to the next open
chapter." Paul says, "It made sense to name the band Open Chapter to signify the
end of former band Last Chance and the beginning of something new."
The lyrics are a mix of sorrow, loss, anger, bewilderment, apathy and
sometimes empowerment. "Our songs really mirror situations or time frames in our
lives...some good, some bad," says Manny. Manny's amazing lyrics qualified him
for affiliation with SESAC, the oldest and most exclusive publisher rights
organization in music. The songs are highly addictive.
Open Chapter has shared the stage with Saving Abel, Powerman5000 and Adema.
