Experimenting with traditional heavy, progressive and thrash metal, Brazilian quintet Greensleeves is the proof that persistence pays off. First formed in 1993, the band became an important player in the local heavy metal scene of Curitiba. However, Greensleeves was disbanded in 1998.
Almost a decade later, in 2007, vocalist Gui Nogueira, guitarists Victor Schmidlin and Cicero Baggio and bassist Joao Koerner reunited to record the band's debut album The Elephant Truth, with Marlon Marquis on the drums. The record would be comprised of new songs, but also some of the band's original tunes. The internet had a vital role in the creative and production processes, as each of the band's members was now living in a different city in Brazil. Recorded at Victor's home studio, the album was released in June 2009. For 2010 – now back to the 1997 lineup with Luis Requiao on the drums – Greensleeves aims at expanding the distribution of the album and is searching for deals with labels and online music stores. MEMBERS Gui Nogueira – vocals Owner of a unique and unmistakable voice, Gui started his career as singer in 1992. He joined Greensleeves in 1997. Victor Schmidlin – guitars Victor started playing guitar in 1991, at age 12. In 1993, he cofounded Wolverines, which was to be renamed Greensleeves one year later. In Brasilia, he cofounded Dynahead and featured the Live at Porão do Rock DVD (2005) and the preproduction of the Antigen album (2008), for which he composed four songs. Victor left Dynahead in 2006. Cicero Baggio – guitars Cicero began his music education in 1985, at age 8, when he started taking piano lessons. At age 13, he studied classic acoustic guitar and, at 14, started taking electric guitar and music theory lessons. Like Victor, has been a member of Greensleeves since its original formation (as Wolverines). João Koerner – bass guitar João plays the bass guitar since 1992, when he was 13. Influenced by his mother, who is a pianist, he developed very eclectic musical tastes, as well as the melodic and percussive approach that defines his style. He took music theory, bass and acoustic guitar lessons, and co-founded Greensleeves in 1994 with Victor and Cicero. Marlon Marquis – drums Marlon started studying music at age 13. In 2005, at age 18, he moved to Brasilia to study music, and joined Dynahead soon after that. He was then invited to join Khallice, but for family reasons he had to move back to his hometown Florianopolis. Marlon joined Greensleeves in 2008.

Release:
ABOUT THE ELEPHANT TRUTH The concept album The Elephant Truth was released in 2009 by brazilian band Greensleeves, after two years of recording and production. The record is divided in 23 tracks and tells, nonlinearly and abstractly, the mental journey of a man in a coma. Inspired by the Asian tale depicted by American poet John Godfrey Saxe (1816–1887) on his poem “The Blind Men and The Elephant”, the storyline of the album is full of metaphors about the diversity of truth and the ways of looking for it. The album features, as special guest, the internationally renowned Alirio Netto, lead singer of progressive metal band Khallice. The Elephant Truth has been receiving very positive reviews by music critics in Brazil and abroad. The album is being market online by Digmetalworld (www.digmetalworld.com) and may also be purchased at iTunes Store (http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-elephant-truth/id345801486) and CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com/cd/gsleeves). POSITIVE FEEDBACK “This is an awesome album”. THE METAL OBSERVER - http://www.metal-observer.com/articles.php?lid=1&sid=6&id=16834 “The combination of an intelligent, well presented theme with masterful composition makes The Elephant Truth a sterling example of classic and provocative progressive metal. Very recommended”. DANGERDOG - http://www.dangerdog.com/reviews_2009/greensleeves-the-elephant-truth-review.php “Precise rhythm and guitarwork, intricate musicality, vocal harmony (in English no less) and a rock opera quality that at times reminded me of Queen”. RAUL AMADOR - Bass Musician magazine, Canada. “However they bring more to this album as there is classic metal, melodic metal, melodic rock and even thrash. What's more is the fact they are quite competent at all of the above forms”. HEAVY METAL TIME MACHINE - http://metalmark.blogspot.com/2009/11/greensleeves-elephant-truth.html “If you are looking for something complex yet easy to get into, then these are worth checking out”. UK METAL UNDEGROUND - http://www.ukmetalunderground.com/index.php?topic=9352.0#new “A notable CD”. SEA OF TRANQUILITY – http://www.seaoftranquility.org/reviews.php?op=showcontent&id=8548

Here's my story. I started writing songs when I was in college. I was a kid then, and did things for the sake of doing them - everything was an open door. Almost all of the songs I wrote then reflect that.
