Last winter ORBO & The Longshots packed their instruments, left their ice cold and snowy native Norway, and flew to Memphis Tennessee. To hear history whisper from the walls, to become the first Norwegians to ever record in the legendary Sun Studio to record songs live in studio for their second album. The trip also went to Nashville and another studio perhaps less known but just as legendary. Nowadays it’s called Compass Sound Studio, formerly known s the Hillbilly Central, the birthplace of the outlaw country movement. There ORBO & The Longshots teamed up with the likes of Kevin Welch and Mike Henderson (Mark Knopfler’s own guitarist).
The result of the adventure is the album “Genuine Handmade Rock ‘n’ Roll”. As the title suggests, ORBO & The Longshots know their rock ‘n’ roll history. It might also suggest ORBO & The Longshots is about nostalgia. But despite the occasional rockabilly rhythms and rock ‘n’ roll licks; ORBO’s music is here and now. “Genuine Handmade Rock ‘n’ Roll” is timeless music with equal shares of rock, pop, blues, country, rockabilly, and Americana mixed to something fresh and exciting. Add ORBO’s very special skill for writing hard-hitting and extremely catchy songs.
ORBO & The Longshots hails from Bergen Norway and was founded in 2000 by Ole Reinert Berg-Olsen (aka ORBO). Since the release of their debut album, “Seven”, in 2005. The band has been touring extensively. Phenomenal!
With a blend of american heartlandrock like John Mellencamp and traditional country the Bergen-musician Ole Reinert Berg-Olsen aka ORBO has released a phenomenal album. The EP “Dead Man Walking” which was released earlier this
year hinted that something big was going on and this is now being confirmed to a full extent. The label makes a number out of the fact that this album is recorded in Sun Studio, but that do not seem to matter. With this band and these songs it would be great no matter where they recorded it. ORBO himself produced the album together with Erick Jaskowiak (TBone Burnett). Another true americana-hero, Kevin Welch, helps with co-writing and vocals, and Mike Henderson (Emmylou Harris, John Hiatt, Mark Knopfler) plays guitar on one song. Highlights: “Taking My Baby Home” and “Skyline”.
