“Hearing Margaret MacDonald play the
piano and sing her songs, I immediately feel transported to a place where
every note is what I want it to be and where lyrics deliver the emotional
impact the melodies deserve. This is exceptional talent combined with well
honed craft.” Harriet Schock, Platinum songwriter and recording artist
“Margaret MacDonald has a big voice, good phrasing, and she accompanies herself
wellno mean feat. Writing original material is tough, but again she scores.
Lots of sturdy songs here. I think Glad You Do may be my fave. This is a
very well recorded album.” Robert Baird, Stereophile
“I love that Margaret MacDonald has the ability to say what I’m thinking. She’s
managed to reach into my over-35 brain and written lyrics that encapsulate how I
feel many days. These songs are full of emotional impact and immediate appeal
and I love Margaret’s style and delivery. Her beautiful, rich voice has hints of
Sarah MacLachlan, Norah Jones and Carole King all rolled into one. These songs
will long resonate within you.” Annette Conlon, DJ/Presenter of NetteRadio.com
“Still 21 In My Head” is the signature song on Margaret MacDonald’s new
album Rain on the Roof just released in late 2006,one of many songs on the
album that are sure to resonate with the music-loving public in their
thirties and up. Margaret says, “I’m certainly in that category so I can’t
help writing music that appeals to this audience. And according to
Billboard, a huge percentage of record sales are to people over the age of
35, so I figure there’s room for some new, slightly older talent.”
Rain on the Roof is a collection of eleven of her original songs with Margaret
performing vocals and piano, and features some amazing talent, including
guitarist Basil Fung (played on Alanis Morrisette’s Jagged Little Pill) and
Charles Waltz (fiddler for the Young Dubliners). Her collaboration with Los
Angeles-based producer Randall Michael Tobin at Theta Sound in Burbank has
resulted in an album with wide appeal to audiences who listen to the likes of
Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLachlan, Carole King and Norah Jones.
Margaret grew up in San Francisco listening to everything from classical music
to R&B to folk, then spent 15 years in the United Kingdom before returning to
California, and her songwriting reflects all of these elements. Her songs
sparkle both musically and lyrically, a rare feat these days. Margaret’s richly
textured voice takes you from the amusing James Taylor-esque “Still 21 In My
Head” to the aching “Cry For You” and the R&B-tinged ballad, “I Know You Love
Me.”
Margaret is concentrating her promotion efforts through the Internet, in
CD/digital distribution and the licensing of her songs for use in television,
film and advertising. She has just written, performed and recorded the opening
theme to an independent French film,“Sans Vie.”
