The Josh Davis Band is giving fans an incentive for buying a hard copy of  their new album "Get Awesome." You can download the Josh Davis Band's new album "Get Awesome" from iTunes next week, but if you do, you won't get the whole album. Fans who buy the CD at a show will get two unreleased tracks not available on the electronic copy. With the bonus songs as an incentive, Davis is hoping to sell more physical copies than electronic ones. "I want to try selling a record for a little while longer," Davis said. "Don't hardly ever see money from iTunes. I'd rather get the money from shows, so I threw on a couple extra tracks."

"Lucinda's Lullaby" is one of those songs, which Davis, 29, describes as a "Tim Burton-y lullaby" that he wrote for his daughter. The focus on selling physical copies of "Get Awesome" doesn't mean Davis is turning his back on fans who prefer MP3s. After three albums in three years, Davis is considering reevaluating the band's annual CD approach. After "Get Awesome" he is thinking about releasing four or five songs a month online, versus one big release. As for the album's name, Davis still isn't quite sure what "Get Awesome" means. Drummer Will Locker came up with the title on the ride home from a gig.

"Will was talking about going back into the studio and rambling excessively," Davis recalls. "He said, 'It's going to be awesome. We're going to get awesome.' When I asked him to explain he just repeated 'get awesome.' I still don't know what it means, but it is a funny name." The band had a busy summer, playing four or five gigs a week on the road. They performed at the Des Moines Tattoo Festival, the Yankee Doodle Pops concert, opened for Cross Canadian Ragweed and recently played the annual Johnny Cash tribute show at People's Court. The band also released its "Mix Tape EP," despite delaying the release show due to flooding at People's.

The band has been doing more touring out of state, which has led to some interesting experiences. During a stop in Tulsa, Okla. things got a little rowdy and Davis caused a hotel evacuation. "I thought it would be a good idea to run around with a fire extinguisher," Davis said. "It ended up setting off a bunch of fire alarms. It was a big, 12-story hotel. The fire department showed up and everything. I thought I had gotten away with it, but I ended up having to pay a big fine and they won't rent us rooms anymore."

News -Josh Davis Band’s “Get Awesome” Drops Sept. 30th
By Scott Kubie • September 9, 2008

Passing on a release we got regarding the new upcoming record from Josh Davis Band. They are one of the acts on Authentic Records, home to the Nadas and lots of other great alt-country and roots/indie acts. Hopefully we can score a video with these guys sometime soon.

DES MOINES, IA (September 2008) - Wanna Get Awesome? On September 30, you can. Authentic Records proudly announces The Josh Davis Band’s
third release, Get Awesome, an album that truly defines itself. The foot-stomping rockers hail from Des Moines and share their label home with fellow Iowan rockers The Nadas. Although they’re often likened to bands within the Texas alt-country Red Dirt scene, The Josh Davis Band does not focus on their Southern cousins; they are true to their Iowa  roots and damn proud of ‘em.

Josh Davis, lead singer, guitarist and songwriter, continues to write tunes about seemingly mundane events that happen to him. “You are all my muse,” says Davis, “and we’re in this game because we’re the real deal.”  Unpredictable, loud and rough around the edges, The Josh Davis Band will tour the Midwest and South in an effort to promote their latest release.

Biography:  Josh Davis can write songs; good ones, too. For the Josh Davis Band’s latest release, “Get Awesome,” it seemed like Josh couldn’t stop writing songs. “The guys at the studio would get pissed because after the album was recorded I kept wanting to record new songs I had written the night before,” says Davis, “but the thing was, I thought they were all good enough to be on there.”

“Get Awesome,” the Josh Davis Band’s third full-length album, was released September 30th, 2008, on the Authentic Records label. The new recording was produced by Davis, and successful indie producers Jon Locker, and Tony Bohnenkamp at their Des Moines, IA-based studio, The Sonic Factory.

The Josh Davis Band is just a simple rock and roll band, with a little bit of twang. The songs aren’t very complicated, but the stories they deliver are far from simple. And with “Get Awesome,” the band has taken a big musical step forward. Since their 2007 release of “Blue Bird,” Davis and other JDB veterans Paul Hart (“tasty” guitar) and “Dusty” Baird (“solid, no-frills” bass) have been joined by Will Locker (“screw-the-norm” drums); this new lineup sounds like a group of musicians who take “on the same page” to a whole new level, both musically and in message. “I may have written the songs, but as a band we developed the final product,” Davis says. “It’s awesome.”

And that final product translates into one hell of a good rock show. “Not because we do a lot of flashy crap,” says Davis. “We’re just boys that like to make noise. We absolutely throw down on stage—there’s really no better way to say it. And the new songs sound great when we play ‘em loud.” “We’re not trying to pretend we are bigger than we actually are. We’re not out here curing cancer. But we are - and I might sound a little cocky - pretty damn good. And we have a lot of fun.”

They do have fun; one time through “Get Awesome” will prove it.
